She remembered one time they had even tried to kiss, a way to see if maybe it might arouse some feelings for him, but it never happened. She was never attracted to him to the point that she wanted to date him. She had known Gavin for the longest time and he had never changed his feelings for her but unfortunately, Maya couldn’t return them. “Keep dreaming, Goldilocks, it will never happen.” Then quickly looked away not wanting to see the hurt.īut she didn’t know what else to do. Gavin turned to Maya with so much hope in his eyes, it almost broke her heart. “Oh, because you are waiting for the day that Maya actually accepts you?” “I don’t have a girlfriend.”Įveryone laughed and Francesca turned to Maya. “Wait until I tell all your girlfriends,” Natalie warned. “So, while you guys shop, we will check out the babes of this town!” Sean wiggled his eyebrows at Gavin and Chandler. The three guys, Gavin, Sean, and Chandler rolled their eyes. “Well, shopping of course! You know how much I hate attending these dinners but since I am going to attend it-thanks to you guys-I have to attend it in style!” Natalie, a cute Latino-with the most amazing hair Maya had ever seen quirked her eyebrows and grinned lightly. “So, what plans do we have this afternoon before the college reunion dinner?” Francesca, a pretty brown-haired, green-eyed girl asked as she adjusted the belts of her sky-diving suit. She clutched her pendant again she tried to calm down as the five friends went into the plane. Since she woke up that morning, she had some sort of anxiety or anticipation coursing through her blood. This was not going to turn out well, she felt it deep in her gut. Maya rolled her chocolate brown eyes and pursed her lips. “Don’t worry, Maya, I will hold your hand in every step of the way.” Gavin, the guy who has had a crush on her for the longest time, tangled his fingers with hers and gave her a quick peck on her cheek. Her legs refused to work but her friends pushed her most of the way, anyway. Now, she was making her way towards the little charter plane that would take them several thousand feet off the ground where she was expected to jump out and enjoy it. Maya was not a fan of heights so she wondered how she ended up there in the first place! With all the biting, screaming, and hugging of heavy objects along the way, her friends were still able to drag her out of the hotel where they were staying, pack her up in a car, pry her out when she refused to barge from the comforts of the car and finally carry her to the changing room. This year-gulp-she was about to plunge to her death with her friends. Last year, they went water-surfing and deep-sea diving. This was all thanks to the college reunion she and five of her friends decided to do each year. Maya couldn’t believe that she actually accepted being dragged up to her friend’s airstrip for sky-diving that faithful morning. She entrusts her life to the mysterious man to help her find some answers but she can’t get around the strange pull they have on each other. When she opens her eyes once more, she finds herself naked, in the arms of a mysterious yet dangerously handsome man but she doesn’t remember who or where she is. She soon understands what the dread was when her parachute refuses to open and she catches fire. I think that, because of some violence and more difficult vocabulary it should be read by children from 8 years old.During a college reunion, Maya Bradford finds herself in an aircraft about to sky-dive with her friends but she couldn’t shake the feeling of dread deep in her gut. It is exciting, it is hard to put down, and it makes you want to read the following books by the same author. I recommend this book because it is a terrific book, and I want to share the joy it gave me. The protagonist, Ping, can be doubting, brave, kind and awesome, and as a reader I found parts of myself that were identical to Ping – I identified well with her. Its strong themes of friendship and self-discovery are well developed by the plot, which moves at a Its vocabulary is very rich and full of descriptive language which helps build an image of the towns and villages of old China, in which the story takes place. I think that Dragonkeeper is a superbly constructed book. Ping makes a number of strong friendships on their journey, with Wang Cao, Danzi, Hua and the Emperor, and she treasures those friendships. They encounter both Diao and The Necromancer on the journey, but overcome these evil men, and also meet The Emperor. A slave girl Ping escapes from the palace of Huangling with the dragon Danzi, carrying the dragonstone towards Ocean.
